3 Steps to Getting Started on The Raw Food Diet During Pregnancy
by Joanna Steven
When I released my eBook Well Rounded: The Ultimate Guide to a Healthy Raw Food Pregnancy, I asked people for questions and planned to release a separate, free e-Book with the answers. Few questions were actually sent, and I hope that the great feedback I got from readers means that the e-Book answered any questions they had regarding healthy raw food pregnancies!
I decided to answer the handful of questions I did receive right here on the blog. If you personally have a question that was not answered, contact me! I’ll be happy to help.
A reader asks:
“Just wondered where you start as a raw mum as I’m 15 weeks pregnant and haven’t been looking after myself and don’t know where to start, what or how much to eat.
Loved the book but wondered if there was something else out there to walk me through daily menus etc…”
I’m glad you loved the book! Here’s what I would do:
Getting Started on Raw Food While Pregnant in 3 Easy Steps
1. Remove Junk Food From Your Diet
If you’re eating deep fried potato chips, white bread with countless additives, candy bars, etc., just stop eating them. Replace them with something healthy.
Potato chips? Kale chips.
White bread? If you must have bread, whole grain sourdough and sprouted breads are much better (not sprouted bread which countain soy). Or try flax crackers.
Candy bars? Make raw chocolates, or raw vegan cheesecakes, or snack on dates.
2. Remineralize Yourself to Avoid Cravings
Starting your day with a good green juice is wonderful.
I often follow them with a big cup of green smoothie. Simply blend 5 cups of fruits with 3 cups of greens like spinach.
Delicious and filling!
3. Get In The Habit of Making Big Salads
Mark Sisson (who admittedly is neither raw nor vegan, but has lots of green tips for the open minded!) once said that real men eat lettuce.
I agree.
Greens are amazing, alkalizing and I eat them every day, sometimes at every meal. Greens changed my life!
Add a bunch of veggies, a tasty dressing, and a nut pate, or raw soup, or something of the sort, and you’ve got a nutrient dense meal that also super quick to make.Basically, this is where I would start. Once there, you can work on other healthy habits but you’ll notice a world of difference with just these few ideas. Stay tuned for a couple more blog posts where I’ll post my daily meal plans! I have a lot of menus from my current breastfeeding days, and will be releasing a brand new book shortly all about breastfeeding on the raw food diet!
