The Best Leafy Greens to Use for Liver Cleansing

The more you learn about leafy greens, the more you’ll get excited about how they can be used for cleansing and gentle detoxification. I’ve been researching different greens and their health benefits and putting together my shopping list. I’m here to share my findings and some of the yummiest green recipes to get your liver singing a happy tune!’
Meet Your Liver-Loving Leafy Greens
Here is a list of my favorite greens to consume by the smoothie-full, juice-full, or bowl-full:
- Arugula
- Dandelion Greens
- Spinach
- Mustard Greens
- Swiss Chard
- Kale
- Chicory
- Cabbage
Number one for cleansing the liver and high in plant chlorophyll, these yummy greens pull environmental toxins from the blood stream. They also possess a distinct ability to neutralize heavy metals, chemicals and pesticides.
How to Get More Leafy Greens in Your Diet
Some liver-loving ways to get them into your day:
Arugu-Love
Ingredients:
1 frozen banana
1 cup mango
2 cups arugula
Water as needed
Directions:
Blend all ingredients together, adding just a little water at a time until well-blended.
Ginger-Ale Smoothie
Ingredients:
1 grapefruit, leave pith
1 orange, leave pith
1 cup apple
3 handfuls of your favorite greens: kale, spinach, dandelion greens, etc.
¼ cup ginger
Pinch of cayenne
Directions:
Blend all together until smooth, adding water as needed. Throw in a few ice cubes to make it extra cold … goes down easiest when ice cold.
Orange-Julius for the Liver
How many folks out there remember Orange Julius? This drink reminds me of one of those every time I see it. It does taste a bit different, but I actually prefer this frothy drink without the syrupy sweetness but WITH all the liver cleansing benefits.
Ingredients:
2 Tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1/3 cup fresh lemon juice
3-5 garlic cloves
1 knob ginger
2 cups orange juice
Pinch cayenne pepper
Directions:
Blend well and enjoy.
Raw Veggie Soup
Ingredients:
1 Tomato
1 Zucchini
1 Celery stalk
1 Red Bell Pepper
2 handfuls of your favorite greens
2 Tbsp Lemon juice
2 Tbps Miso
1 Green Onionm
1 Garlic clove
1 Avocado
Water to thin to desired consistency
Directions:
Blend all ingredients well and a bit warm. Add chopped veggies to the final soup if you’d like. Have a wonderful, liver-loving week!!
