Natural Beauty Recipe:
It’s About Thyme You Zap Your Zits With the Power of Nature
by Paula Davis
Did you know thyme is a proven zit zapper? A recent study conducted at Leeds Metropolitan University in northern England, proved a simple tincture of thyme is more effective in killing bacteria associated with acne than medicated creams containing benzoyl peroxide.
This is big news considering the billions of dollars spent on benzoyl peroxide, a harsh and often irritating over-the-counter pimple medication. Many have been putting up with this popular product for decades even though it generates free radicals, skin damage and long lasting hyper-pigmentation. If you search the National Library of Medicine, you’ll find 102 articles connecting benzoyl peroxide linked to skin cancer due to its tumor-producing properties. Until now, they didn’t know there was an effective alternative.
It’s About Thyme
Thyme, botanically known as Thymus vulgaris, although widely known for its culinary benefits, has a host of medicinal qualities as well.
Thyme oil is rich in thymol, a powerful antibacterial and antimicrobial agent. This means it is capable of killing and preventing the growth of many types of bacteria and, in addition to bacteria, it can kill and prevent the growth of microscopic organisms like protozoa, yeast, fungi, viruses and even worms. This is why thyme is such an effective treatment for acne. In addition to the virus that causes acne, because many of us touch our pimples and sometimes, yes, you better admit it, pinch and pop them too, we introduce bacteria into the mix.
How to Zap your Zits with Thyme Natural Zit-Zapper
My favorite homemade remedy for pimples, especially those painful one deep under the skin, is to apply a thyme mask. It’s so easy to make.
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon Organic Coconut Oil
- 2 tablespoons Organic Clay
- 6-8 drops Organic
100% Pure Essential Thyme Oil
Directions:
Place the clay in a glass container. Add the oil, ½ a teaspoon at a time, and mix. Once you have mixed in all the oil and the mixture is smooth, add 6-8 drops of thyme oil and mix again. Now the mixture almost has a creamy consistency.
Apply to your pimple and leave on for the night. For really troublesome bumps, you may need to repeat the process several consecutive evenings.
