Scandinavian and ancient Ayurvedic communities knew that skin stimulation was not only a great way to improve the appearance of the skin, but a wonderful way to stimulate the lymphatic, digestive, circulatory and elimination systems of the body. Read on to find out how this simple daily practice can significantly improve your health and smooth your bumpy bits and pieces!
Tips for Naturally Beautiful Skin
Our skin is complex, made up of nerves, glands and cell layers that, when healthy, help to protect and buffer our bodies from extreme temperatures, chemicals, and our environment at large.
It also produces antibacterial substances to protect us from infection and enables our bodies to produce vitamin D when exposed to the sun. The skin contains densely packed nerve cells that act as messengers to our brains, making the skin a crucial part of our interaction with the world around us.
New cells are produced in the deep layers of the skin and take approximately 28 days to reach the surface and become the skin we see. In healthy functioning skin the dead cells slough off with the routine rubbing from clothing and everyday interactions (and become house dust, ewww).
Benefits Of Dry Brushing:
- The skin, being largest organ of the body, plays a major role in detoxification, however if our skin is overrun with dead cells, it isn’t able to eliminate the waste from our body efficiently.
- Naturally exfoliates the skin by brushing off the dead skin cells helps increase and improve elimination by activate waste removal via our lymph nodes helping the body detoxify itself naturally.
- It clears oil, dirt and residue from your pores smooth the appearance of cellulite.
- Dry brushing makes the skin feel smooth and soft!
- Done in the morning it is a great way to increase circulation and therefore increase energy!
Skin Brushing Tips for Better Health & Beauty
Dry brush daily before showering, to wash off the old skin cells once you brush them.
Pop 1-2 drops of our Opulent Skin Drops on to the palm of your hand and pass your brush over it a few times until the oil is evenly dispersed over all the bristles. The essential oils we use like chamomile, cypress, rose, lavender, frankincense, and immortelle will increase circulation significantly and help vaporize cellulite forever!
Start at your foot (left for women, right for men), and using long feather touch strokes, glide the brush over, under and around your tootsies for several passes, be present and enjoy feeling the sensations!
Continue up your leg to your calves, thighs, and take note to stop along the way to pay particular attention to your knees, (try a circular motion here going clockwise and then anticlockwise) and any area of dryer, thicker skin. Be sure not to bypass your buttocks! This area holds a lot of tension and responds so well to the brushing.
Repeat the same process with your arms! Start with your palms, always brush towards your heart, and again pay attention to elbows and perhaps the underside of your arm as this skin is frequently susceptible to congestion. Raise your arm above your head to give easy access to your armpit where your lymph nodes will benefits from extra care and attention.
Sweep the brush from the elbow passed your armpit and then around and under your breast towards your heart to give a beautiful clearing of this hard-working area. This is particularly essential for woman as the lymph nodes in this area can get constricted and blocked from wearing brassieres.
Finish with your torso, sweep the brush from hip to hip in long luxurious strokes towards the heart, enjoying making gentle contact with your digestive system.
Finish with the back, sweeping your brush from your waist up and your neck down.
The brush you use must be made of natural bristles, as this helps to pull the excess oil from your pores and to eliminate the possibility of scratching your skin and depositing the chemical residue used to make synthetic bristles.
Always use gentle strokes and don’t go too hard. If you do, you are likely to damage the skin making it red and stingy, and we don’t want any of that, so gently will do.
A general guide is between 4-8 strokes.
On days when you’re sluggish or think you’re too busy to make the time, I promise that by the time you’ve reach your knees you’ll be buzzing with energy and ready to take on your day with gusto! Don’t shortchange yourself on a few minutes invested in personal care. [tweet_dis]Make time to pamper and care for yourself because being you is the most beautiful thing you can do![/tweet_dis]
