Recently, we shared a story from Leah Jacobson on using green smoothies to kick the coffee habit! We had lots of enthusiastic and wonderful comments on the blog, including one from Debbie Berry, a mom and grandmother who is coping with the realities of cancer in her family. We asked her if we could share her comment as a post and tell her story about using raw food to find a better way to live.
Debbie will be joining us this spring for the 21-Day Green Smoothie Detox, and we hope you’ll band together with us to help her break her coffee habit!
Here’s her story…
Dear GSQ,
My daughter sent me your link this morning. I have been on the path to creating better health for my myself and family for over 2 years now.
I have a facebook page dedicated to sharing my experience in Raw Food living; we just finished up a 30 day green smoothie challenge. I have been researching and trying everything possible to help my oldest daughter who has been battling cancer.
I was interviewed by local TV station few weeks ago [see the video above] about our family’s search for a natural healing for my daughter, as traditional medicine is wreaking havoc on her immune system and vital organs. She did the Gerson Therapy for 4 months, which was so very hard, but wonderful… but the tumor kept growing and growing until she couldn’t get out of bed to even hold her 2 small children. She had surgery, but before surgery her doctor told her that her eating habits had helped detox and make her body stronger for the healing to take place after surgery.
I gave up my job to make her 12 juices a day, as well as all the salads that she had to consume. She has a very rare cancer and has been told over and over that chemo is the only chance she has. She is getting ready to start her second round, and I have ramped up the green smoothies to help offset the toxins as much as possible.
I believe that all these horrible dis-eases are caused by America’s poor diets, chemicals, and toxins in most of our food chain and water. We do eat all organic, and I make all our own cleaning products.
I so wish I knew all of this when my daughters were younger; maybe I could have helped prevent this nightmare . I eat well, drink my green smoothies daily, but giving up my coffee seems like an impossible feat for me.
My days are so long and spent trying to help and make a difference in everyone else’s life, that yes, like lots of woman and mothers I put myself on the back burner, and coffee has been my best friend through this painful time. I so want to kick this habit. I need to… for me and for my family.
Thank you for spreading the word on GREEN. Joining the 21-Day Green Smoothie Detox would benefit my whole family. It has been a long, hard and painful 2 years … I am the caregiver, mother, grandmother, wife, and friend. I am beginning to feel worn out and drinking more coffee than ever before (with cream and sugar) just to get through the day.
Thank you,
Peace and Love to All
Debbie
