The Health Benefits of Rooibos Tea Extract:
A Satisfying South African Super Herb and Culinary Delight
– by Dodee Schmitt
Aspalathus linearis is the botanical or scientific name for the Rooibos plant.
Rooibos (pronounced as ROY-BOSS) is a fynbos species within the Cape Floral Kingdom, one of six recognized floral kingdoms in the world. Aspalathus is part of the legume family and contains more than 200 species, which can be found only in South Africa.
Although this incredible plant medicine is fairly new to the Western World the South African communities have been utilizing this full-bodied, caffeine-free, anti-oxidant rich plant for several generations.
Put Rooibos Extract in your Natural Medicine Cabinet!
When taken in the form of an extract, the benefits of Rooibos are much more medicinal than in its form of loose leaf tea. It gives protection on a cellular level while having an incredibly rich and full bodied taste as it works as an adaptogen to rejuvenate and hydrate the cells.
It is most widely revered for its ability to hydrate the cells, increase immune function and and neutralize toxins in the body and bloodstream.
Rooibos has also been known to alleviate allergies, stomach spasms and has incredible anti-inflammatory properties. Mothers across the world have been very thankful for the soothing effects that Rooibos has on babies with colic.
Anti-oxidant Rich Rooibos
The three main anti-oxidant groups found in Rooibos are: Polyphenols, Flavonoids, and Proanthocyanidins.
Polyphenols can greatly reduce the risk of damage to the cells and keep you looking and feeling vibrant.
Flavonoids can assist us in overcoming the massive amounts of environmental toxins we are exposed to on a daily basis such as: Smog, Electro Magnetic Frequencies, Car pollution, Chem Trails, Radiation & General Pollution from Industrial toxins.
Proanthocyanidins act as our anti-cancer and anti-allergenic anti-oxidants. In general they reduce the oxidation damage of our cells.
Because of the therapeutic quality in an extract form, Rooibos strengthens the cell walls providing cancer protection, healthy immune response, reduction in headaches, and overall relief and increased energy.
Rooibos Culinary Delights
With its rich, sweet and slightly earthy profile it makes a great addition to your herbal tea selection. You can make Rooibos tea extract into iced-tea, hot tea, and use it in culinary creations such as ice cream. You can also use Rooibos as a body care ingredient in soaps, make-ups and the like. In fact, Michael Douglas had Rooibos Ice Cream at his wedding party!
Rooibos contains the minerals iron, potassium, sodium, calcium, copper, zinc, magnesium, and manganese. Each on of these minerals is vital for a healthy immune system, and they also are required by our bodies for thousands of enzyme reactions which take care of the wear and tear on our cells. With this full array of minerals it hydrates the body on a cellular level.
What a wonderful life giving plant we can add to our tea stash!
Enjoy! 🙂
…And let us know in the comments below how you like to enjoy Rooibos!
