~ by Jodi Lea Cleaves

Have you ever had a bad hair day? Dry, fly-away or lifeless-looking hair getting you down? The best remedy is to nourish your hair where is grows — at the roots! There’s no need to try something complicated, expensive or time-consuming to liven up your locks!

Instead, we are going to walk you through a super-simple overnight treatment you can do now. So you can wake up to a great hair day.

[tweet_dis]Did you know that brushing upside down is great for the lymph system?[/tweet_dis] It stimulates the scalp and gets the blood to flow right to the top of your head encouraging great circulation.

Choose a beauty-boosting oil you have on hand, either jojoba oil or coconut oil are perfect for nourishing your hair.

Deep Conditioning Hair Treatment

Ingredients:

  • ¼ cup oil of your choice
(more or less, depending on how much hair you have)
  • a few drops of essential oil (suggestions for an itchy scalp: tea tree, cedar, seabuckthorn or peppermint)

For this overnight repair treatment, blend oils together. After thoroughly brushing your hair, massage the oil mixture onto the entire scalp and down through the length of your hair.

Using a natural bristle brush or comb, brush your hair to coat each strand. (A little tip to keep your brush clean is to place an old pair of nylons over the bristles and pull tight, piercing the nylons to cover the face of the brush. Just remove after use and most of the oil and debris will go along with the nylons…viola!)

Wrap your hair in plastic wrap or a shower cap and place an old towel over your pillow. Go to sleep and dream your way to glorious-looking locks. In the morning, wash your hair as usual.

(If you want to do this during the day, leave the oil on for an hour or so then wash out.)

Oil is wonderful to help the saponification process, so don’t be surprised if you use less shampoo and get more lather.

Make an herbal tea and using any excess, rinse your hair with it to yield a beautiful glossy finish. Black Walnut is wonderful for a rinse, where as nettles, horsetail and chaga are amazing for rinsing and drinking to give luster and shine to hair.

You can even extend the life of your shampoo by adding herbal tea! Simply add equal parts of any of the herbal teas mentioned above and shampoo then wash your hair! This is an easy way to impart the beautiful properties of the tea to your hair. (Mix only what you need for one wash as the tea will shorten the shelf life of the shampoo.)

Try using the sun and natural air to dry your hair and avoid using hair dryers if at all possible. Once dry, you can use hot rollers to give a lovely finish and body. They help smooth the hair cuticle and give a glossy finish.
