If you’ve been struggling with a negative body image and low self-esteem, then prepare for a little love and healing. I sat down and put together some powerful interviews about boosting body confidence and increasing self-love, then wrote my body a little love letter apologizing for years of harsh thoughts, poking and picking on my bits and pieces. When I shared it with my community, the response was really moving, so I decided to post it here in case it could help you boost your self-esteem and do a little body image healing, too.

Dear Body,

I’m sorry.

For so many years I picked and poked at you. I plucked, waxed and ripped out your hair, just because it was there. I looked at you with disgust and frustration, measured your value in pounds and inches of pinch-able flesh, and if you packed on weight, I made sure you never ate dinner.

I never thought to consider that all my hate was what made you pack on more weight. I didn’t think that all my poking and picking on you meant your pudgy parts needed to be even thicker!

I can see it all more clearly now, Dear Body.

What I thought were your “malfunctions” or “mistakes” were really just you trying to make the best of a tough situation, and try desperately to get my attention.

You weren’t being lazy or “fat” You were trying to cushion me from all. that. hate! And the more life threw on our plate, the tougher and rougher you needed to get to cushion the blow.

Every time you pushed out another silver strand of hair, I pouted in protest and plucked it. You were just trying to prove you had more wisdom, and that I should listen a little more.

I thought your pimples were punishment, but they were rosy-coloured pleas for my attention– your way of trying to mention I might want to take a little better care of myself.

So My Dear Beautiful Body,

For all the times I poked, picked, prodded, squeezed and said nasty things about you in my head, instead of listening…

…I am truly sorry.

I got caught up in the surface stuff, and forgot how tough you really are and how hard you work to keep me going.

So, I’d like to make it up to you. 🙂

I’m ready to listen now, Body.

I know I haven’t always been a great friend, but this could be the end of our struggles and my chance to show you how much you really mean to me.

 If you don’t mind hanging out with me for this, I promise to stay focused, follow along and do my best to give you the love and care you finally deserve.

 I really think you and I have a chance to finally love and understand one another.
