Marla Cilley Teaches the Women of WISH to FLY! (And she made me cry!)

by | 7 comments

What follows is a little sneak peek preview of my call with Marla Cilley (“The FLY Lady”) during WISH Summit 2011.

Okay, I know I’m going to say this for so many of the calls, but believe me–every time I say it, it’s true. Marla Cilley rocked my world!!!! The first time someone (a “celebrity” I was contacting to interview) did this for me, it was Sean Stephenson. I called up, questions prepped and ready to roll, and much to my surprise, he wanted to “chat” first.

“Let’s get to know each other first.”

With Sean it was a blast–he’s such an incredible person and we talked relationships, love and life in general and it paved the way for a fabulous interview where we both felt totally connected.

Marla, she knocked my socks right off. I just wasn’t expecting what she had in store for me.

I had to keep checking in with myself–I was trying to rush things and she wanted to talk. I guess I’m used to being respectful of other people’s time and didn’t want to take advantage of her generosity. But at a certain point, I had to stop myself and take a deep breath, because this woman’s ONLY motivation while speaking to me for over two hours was to lift me up, contribute to my life in a powerful way and honor my deepest purpose in life.

When I finally let go enough to just receive the care, support, wisdom and attention she was offering me, tears started rolling down my cheeks.

“What’s happening dear,” she asked, as though she could feel my tears through the phone.

“Well, I guess I just stopped long enough and slowed down enough to understand that you’re here trying to help and support me.

“Yes, dear…”

And she proceeded to explain why and tell me how important the work I’m doing is. She told me exactly how to write my next book, and in fact the workbook we’re creating based on the WISH Summit calls “If Wishes Were Horses” was inspired by this conversation. Those were the very words she used in our call when she told me that I needed to turn these calls into a book, not lock them up when the event has ended so no one can use them again!

If you think you’re going to tune into this call and get another home-organizing seminar, you’re wrong. You’re going to get a soul-organizing conversation that will leave you changed forever. Marla Cilley is so completely, selflessly committed to supporting women in every way she can and it was my true honor to share this time with her. It was a call that changed me completely and will no doubt shape so much of what I do, how I do it moving forward from here.

Just for the fun, here’s a bit of what to expect in this interview:

Do you let the dishes pile in the kitchen sink? Is clutter collecting dust on shelves, in corners and under the bed? You can try to hide it, avoid it or just put it off, but it doesn’t go away, and eventually you’ll find yourself living with CHAOS (Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome!) What if the way you manage your thoughts is reflected in the way you manage your environment?

If this is true, the Marla Cilley, FLY lady, is here to teach you how finally loving yourself is the first step to having a clean kitchen sink.

What do you believe is the secret to your success? What about your message makes it so attractive to so many women?

You have a few powerful tools that women love, that really are the key to your success. Can you share them with us now, for women who may not yet be familiar with your work?

I think many of us take comfort in knowing that you weren’t always this organized. Do you ever “let things go” now? Could you sit around comfortably in someone else’s mess and not do anything about it?

What are the biggest things that keep women from maintaining a clean, orderly environment?

I think the thing I love most about what you do, is the fact that you start the day by putting on lace up shoes and actually taking a bit of time to make yourself feel good first. You wash your face before the kitchen sink, and SOOOO many of us do that backwards.

Find out what she said about my kids that made me motivated to get up in the morning and take care of myself first!

You write for some 250 newspapers, have a tv show, a radio show and millions of followers, DO YOU make time for self care, pampering and looking after yourself??

Marla Cilley is The FlyLady. Marla is a SHE’ (Sidetracked Home Executive). This system saved her life and continues to bless her. When Marla found the www.SHEsintouch.com website years ago, she needed a user name for the forums. Everyone was trying to help her come up with one. When they found out that she loved to flyfish and she taught it at a local college, they came up with “FlyLady”. It is because of Marla’s SHEness that she can now teach others. On December 7, 1999 someone asked Marla for help and the FlyLady mentoring group began. This group has always been her gift to whoever joined. All Marla ever wanted to do was help people.

And now, the name, FlyLady, has come to mean so much more. One of her members came up with a great acronym for it:

Finally Loving Yourself (FLY) – this is the gift that FlyLady wants you to receive.
